Movies
All started in 1976 with a poor known film called " Eraserhead
", which is a little genesis of the universe of Lynch: opressive,
dark, unreal. This film opened to him the gates of the cinema
, with a Mel Brooks more than motivated to finance his following
film. Lynch connects two significant films: Elephant man (1980)
and Dune (1984) which were completely opposed to the level of
their successes.
And
it is from there that Lynch reveals himself completely, with more
independent films, intimists. This one is not obstructed to show
us visions of these completly apart worlds ! Thus Blue velvet
(1986) makes possible to the realizer to join again the links
between the realizer, traumatized by the extended critics about
Dune, and the cinema, which is before all a whole art.
In
1990, Sailor & Lula appeares on our screens, and benefits
immediately of large success in Cannes... Lynch obtains the gold
palm with a knocking film , where arises violence (musical, physical),
love and the shift with all that surrounds us.
After
this success, a great project is revealed to us, Twin Peaks: Fire
walk with me (1992). The film comes out after the series of the
same name, but is in fact the foreword. Disconcerting for all
the spectators who have'nt seen the series, Fire walk with me
is'nt wel accepted by the criticists and the public, and this
buries the small world of Twin Peaks (Except for the fans).
It
is in 1995 that Lost highway comes out in world preview in France.
Somebody said that Eraserhead is the genesis of the " Lynchland
". Lost highway can be the epilogue for it. This film joins
again, in all the directions of the term, with the favorite subjects
of Lynch. Besides the only explanation that this one gives us
on film is that it speaks about " a psychogenic running away
".
The
" Lynchland " has just closed itself with Lost highway.
David Lynch is interested by a more personal film: " The
straight story ", first film where he does not participate
to the writing of the scenario. This one will be selected for
the Festival of Cannes 1999, but will not receive any reward in
spite of the general recognition of criticists.
It is into 2001 that Lynch carries out a televised series: Mulholland
Drive. Diffused by ABC, the chains decides to stop the project
because there are too many inconsistencies in the scenario (disappearance
of characters without reasons). Lynch drops this project but is
recontacted by Canal + for transformed this serie into film. After
having turned over scenes, the film is presented to the festival
of Cannes 2001 and will receive theaward of best realisation with
film of the Cohen brothers.
